Lumigan is a medication used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to the optic nerve, resulting in vision loss. Ocular hypertension is an increase in pressure in the eye, which can cause serious damage to the optic nerve.
Lumigan contains the active ingredient bimatoprost. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that works by increasing the outflow of fluid from the eye, thereby reducing intraocular pressure. It also helps to reduce the risk of further damage to the optic nerve.
Lumigan is also known by its generic name, bimatoprost. Other names for the medication include Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution, Latisse, and Lumigan Eyedrops.
Lumigan is available in 0.03% and 0.1% concentrations. The recommended dose for adults is one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day in the evening. If more than one eye medication is being used, the medications should be administered at least five minutes apart.
Common side effects of Lumigan include eye itching, dry eyes, and redness. Other more serious side effects may include eye pain, vision changes, and swelling of the eye. If any of these side effects occur, contact your doctor immediately.
Before using Lumigan, it is important to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any allergies. It is also important to tell your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as they may interact with Lumigan. Additionally, Lumigan should not be used for more than 16 weeks.
Lumigan is an effective medication for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is important to follow the instructions of your doctor when using this medication. If you experience any side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
